Fall 2010 Mini Album

I made this Fall Mini Album with photos of my granddaughters taken this week-end at the Pumpkin Patch and a family birthday dinner.

Here are the dimensions of the book:

Outside Front Cover: 3 1/4 x 10 inches, score at 4 1/4, 4 1/2, and 9 1/4

Pages: 3 x 4 1/2 inches (6 of them) Score at 3/4 inches so your pages will flip properly. You can round the corners of the pages on the opposite end of the score line if you wish.

Designer Paper: 2 3/4 x 3 1/2 or 3 3/4 depending on if you want it to tuck in the fold or not.

Photos: 8 to 10 pictures sized/cropped at 3 3/4 x 2 3/4 or smaller, depends on how much journaling you want to do.

Instructions: Cover of the mini album after scored and folded resembles a match book cover. Staple close to the edge of the paper after you get your pages in the book. Add whatever embellishments you wish depending on the theme of the book. This one is a Fall or Harvest theme. The original inspiration came from my stampin buddy Sue. Check out all her wonderful mini albums on her blog.

Mini Album Class Coming Soon

My Stampin Buddy and Soul Sister, Sue and I will be holding a Mini Album Workshop on Tuesday, October 26th at 6:00 p.m. The cost of the class is $10. Participants will make two mini albums to take home to fill with their own photos. One will be a Christmas theme and the other a general or birthday theme. No prior stamping experience necessary. All materials will be provided. Once you have made these two albums you will be able to create others for events along the way - for example that new baby, a wedding, etc. Come join the fun.

If you are interested let me know by Friday, the 15th of October (this Friday). Call me at 541-340-1359. Space in limited and filling up fast.

October Stamp Club Projects

This month's projects were a lot of fun. Barb was our hostess. Everyone had fun making her two projects. She made the Sparkly & Bright Christmas Card and the Owl Birthday, both Stampin Up sets and punches. Thanks Barb!

I made the Holiday Lineup Reindeer Card - I used the All Purpose Ink by Stampin Up called Frost White, I put it on the card with a sponge dauber after running the card stock through the Big Shot using an embossing folder (Cuttlebug). After coloring the card with Stampin ' Write Markers I used Crystal Effects on Rudolph's nose! I used the Photos Corners Extra Large Punch by Stampin Up for the black corner and inserted a brad.

Here is a card I made my dad for Father's Day...he is always working on projects, the funny thing about this was my sister mailed him a card that she bought that was a similar themed card! Boy how we know our dad! Her's referred to using duct tape on projects!

My Dad gave me this picture of him as a baby, it was taken and the local photographer in The Dalles entered it in the Sears National Photo Contest and it won First Place. Dad was born in 1933 so I believe this was in 1934 or 1935 when he was one or two years old.

January Stamping Club Projects

Here are three of the four projects we made tonight in our January Stamping Club...lots of fun! The fourth projects was two little glass marbles with a stamped image glued to the bottom that was made into magnets. I didn't get a chance to make the magnets. Cheri was our hostess - thanks Cheri for your two cute projects.

SU Embossing Folder called Elegant Bouquet, Heart Punch, I {Heart} Hearts Clear Unmounted Stamp Set. I used Rose Red CS, Whister White CS, and Rose Red Stamp Pad and Marker. I then colored the center of the flowers, used 2 Way Glue Pen, and Dazzling Diamond Glitter from Stampin' Up!

Christmas 2009

Today we had a great day spending it with family. We enjoyed each others company, had lots of great food that Papa prepared for all of us. His Prime Rib was great as usual. The granddaughters had a great time opening their presents and playing together. They both got lots of Barbie's and Barbie stuff (a jeep for Maddie and a purple car for Abby plus lots of Barbie furniture and a house!) Boy I would have been in Barbie heaven if I would have gotten this stuff when I was a kid!

One of the most special things I received was this hand made card from Rick. He told me he was going to stamp me a card and asked for some paper and asked where the tool was that crinkled the paper (the cuttle bug embossing folders) I handed him some paper and the Cuttlebug Folder and left my craft room. This morning I opened his beautiful card. Here it is..the photo doesn't it do it justice. On the bottom picture he wrote all the families names...he really put some thought into it.

October Stamp N Share Projects

Here are the three (3) October Stamp N Share Club Projects. Our hostess was Barb - she brought the cute Christmas Gift Card Holder that can hang on the tree! What a neat idea. Thanks Barb!

Here are the other two projects. The first card with the Ornaments are made with the new Punch from Stampin' Up! (love their punches!) and the second card with the Snowmen are from the Holiday Lineup SU Set and the frosted window is punched with the 1 3/4 inch circle punch 3 times and then I used strapping tape and Dazzlying Diamond Glitter to frost the window (sticky side up toward the face of the card). The border on the Snowman Card is made from the SU Specialty Designer Series Paper called Chrismas Cocoa Specialty, it is flocked and oh so fun! Card stock is Real Red SU and Walmart White. I used SU Markers to color the Snowmen. Fun and messy card to make, my granddaughter Maddie made one (age 6) and was so proud of herself when she was finished - did great job too!

September Stamp N Share Club Projects

Tonight was our Stamp N Share Club - we had 17 stampers and one little helper - my granddaughter Maddie. She loves to stamp and couldn't wait to come to Stamping with the girls tonight! She even passed up going to Racquetball with Papa to come stamping. Papa said she is turning into a Girly Girl!

Kitty was our hostess tonight and she brought this wonderful Christmas card as one of our projects. She also brought a box full of beautiful cards for us to view! Thank you Kitty for the project and goodies!

Here is a Get Well Card I made for a friend's husband. It is with one of my favorite retired Stampin' Up! sets called Happy Healing. I used Designer Paper from Stampin Up as well and cut out the image and words with Nesties.

Now I am off to finish the California Gold Rush Ghirardelli Chocolate Bundt Card I made for a family birthday - has Ghirardelli Milk Chocolate Carmel Squares and Toased Pecns hidden in the middle! Can't wait to taste it. I will let you know how it turns out. I am also baking a Cheesy Chicken Casserole for dinner too! OMG! I feel like Julie in the movie Julie & Julia writing this in my blog! I had a flash back to my youth when I was mixing the cake and then baking the chicken ahead of time for the casserole for dinner tonight, it was about when my sister Karen and I were little girls visitng my Grandma and Great-Grandma in Monroe, Washington. Right after breakfast they would start preparing items for dinner and we would laugh about us just getting done with breakfast. Does this mean I am turning into my Grandma and Great-Grandma or just thinking ahead?

Well I just TRIED getting the bundt cake out of the pan and it didn't come out in one piece...got it reshaped (not as pretty though) on the plate. The part that stuck to the pan is oh so tasty though - yes I had to sample it and so did Rick. You know the saying "Never trust a cook who doesn't eat their own cooking so I HAD to taste it - I sprinkled it with powdered sugar and it looks presentable for family, especially my family - They will eat most anything!. Need to grease the pan better next time. Here is the recipe if you want to try it:

Ghirardelli California Gold Rush Cake

Michele Covarrubias of Lodi won first place with this recipe in the Ghirardelli Chocolate Championship at the California State Fair.

· 8 ounces (two 4-ounce bars) Ghirardelli 100 percent Cacao Unsweetened Chocolate Baking Bar, chopped (I used 60% - found at Fred Myers, couldn't find 100%)

· 1 cup unsalted butter

· 3 cups granulated sugar

· 5 eggs

· 1 tablespoon pure vanilla extract

· 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour

· 1 teaspoon salt

· 1 bag (5.3 ounces) Ghirardelli Chocolate Squares, Milk Chocolate with Caramel Filling, unwrapped

· 1/2 cup toasted pecans, finely chopped

· 1/4 cup powdered sugar

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray fluted two-quart bundt pan with baking style cooking spray. In a one-quart saucepan over low heat, melt butter and both baking bars. Remove from heat when chocolate is almost entirely melted. Continue stirring until chocolate is completely melted. Set aside.

In a small bowl, combine flour and salt. Set aside.

In a stand mixer on low speed, mix sugar, eggs and vanilla. When these are incorporated, gradually increase speed to medium-high. Beat on medium-high for approximately 10 minutes. (got to love that Kitchen Aid Mixer I bought for myself last Christmas!) Batter will be pale yellow and fluffy. Alternately add chocolate mixture and flour mixture to egg batter, beginning and ending with the chocolate. Mix until just incorporated.

Pour half of the batter into prepared pan. Place unwrapped Milk Chocolate Squares side by side around the center of the pan on top of the batter.

Sprinkle toasted pecans over the chocolate squares. Pour the rest of the batter in the pan, spreading it evenly over the candy and nuts. Bake cake at 350 degrees for 45 to 55 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack to cool for about 15 to 20 minutes. Invert cake onto serving plate and cool completely.

Before serving, dust cake with powdered sugar.

Dipped Gingersnaps - Family favorite

Dipped Gingersnaps (recipe is from my dear friend Sue Kment - her blog is http://suesstampingstuff.blogspot.com/ and she has a lot of wonderful recipes and papercrafts on there - go and enjoy!

2 cups sugar

1-1/2 cups vegetable oil

2 eggs

1/2 cup molasses

4 cups all-purpose flour

4 teaspoons baking soda

1 tablespoon ground ginger

2 teaspoons ground cinnamon

1 teaspoon salt

Additional sugar for rolling the cookies in before baking

Frosting
I prefer to use 6 cubes of almond bark instead of the bags of chips and shortening-much faster!

Frosting from scratch:
2 packages (12 ounces each)vanilla baking chips

1/4 cup shortening

In a mixing bowl, combine sugar and oil; mix well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Stir in molasses. Combine dry ingredients; gradually add to creamed mixture and mix well. Shape into 3/4-in. balls and roll in sugar. (I use my #60 scoop on these) place 2 in. apart on ungreased baking sheets. Bake at 350 deg. for 10-12 minutes( I bake for 9 minutes makes the cookies softer) or until cookie springs back when touched lightly. Remove to wire racks to cool. Melt chips with shortening in a small saucepan over low heat (Again, I melt almond bark in my microwave for dipping for 1 minute then stir and the another 15 seconds seems to work best). Dip the cookies halfway; shake off excess. Place on waxed paper-lined baking sheets to harden. Yield: about 4 1/2 dozen

Mini Candy Bar Holder - 2nd Version

Here is another of the Mini Candy Bar Holders I made from Dawn's wonderful instructions. Just a simple version of the box we made a class tonight. I put Crystal Effects on the heart after I colored it with water color pencils. I used the big scallop out of the Baskets and Blossoms Big Shot Die Cuts, the scallop punch, and the 1 inche circle punch.

Big Shot Christmas Box

I got my new Top Notes Sizzix die cut from Stampin' Up! on Friday and got a moment to play with it yesterday. Here is my first project I made with it from a tutorial from Confessions of a Ribbon Addict. It is a cute little treat box. I think we will make one of these boxes for our October Stamp Club project.

This card is for my sister and brother-in-law's first anniversary. They were married last September in Italy...I used my new cuttlebug border folders...fun. Black and White paper always looks elegant I think.

Here are two Punch cards I made with my SU Circle, Oval, and Slot punches. The paper is Green Galore, Basic Black, and Whisper White. I used the White Gel Pen to write on the black like a chalk board. I used my paper piercer to make the sewing edge on the bottom card. I glued on goggle eyes.

Fun, I got the idea from Dawn's website.

I just got tagged by Hedi Fleetwood my new Stamping Friend. I met her through our good friend Sue Kment. Sue and I grew up together and now have added Heidi to our friend list. Daughter's Birthday Card

This is a card my granddaughter Maddie and I made this week-end for my daughter Carrie. Her birthday is in October (yes, I can't believe I am that organized - hope I remember I made it and remember to give it to her!) We used the Big Shot, the sizzix cupcake die cut, Pretty In Pink Card Stock, and Chocolate Chip Card Stock. Then the fun part - chunky glitter! Boy did Maddie have fun doing that part! Here is Maddie - she is my little Stamping Buddy! We have a rule for my stamping room - You must be having fun to be there and no whining! This keeps us both enjoying our craft or we leave the room! (Also helps me keep Maddie - age 5 focused on Having Fun!) The other rule is No boys Allowed! It isn't that we don't like boys it is so Papa and Tom (the cat) can't come in the girls room without an invitation. Maddie snitched on Papa and said he knew where we hide the candy! Of course the candy is for Stamping projects (or to keep us happy while stamping - remember rule #1 - Have Fun!)

Get Well Friend Card

I don't have many stamp sets for making a get well card but I have a Stampin Friend who is in the hospital and wanted to make her a card to let her know I am thinking of her. This is what I came up with from the Window Dressing Set. I used Filigree Background stamp, and the new hostess set Best Yet. I colored it with the SU water color crayons and used my new scallop edge punch on the SU Designer Pumpkin Pie paper.

This morning I was writing my grocery list in an old notebook I had and decided it needed dressed up so of course I got out my SU Designer Paper, Spiral Punch, and Tart and Tangy Set along with my sizzix alphabet set and Big Shot...here is my creation.

September Stamp Club Projects

Tonight was our first workshop of the season. We had 11 people there tonight...here are the 3 projects we made. Mainly used punches and just a little stamping. Happy Fall You All!

The Baby Card is from a blog that I will have to try to remember who to credit this punch baby card to.

The little fall candy holder is made with a 6 x 6 square piece of designer paper and is folded in a "Diaper Fold". The idea came from Sue's Stamping Cyper Sister, Heidi Fleetwood.

The Frankenstein is a treat bag, I used a white lunch sack. The idea came from Dawn's blog.

Grandchildren off to school...

This week was the first week of school for my two granddaughters. My youngest, Abigail start 3 year old Pre-school for the very first time and my oldest granddaughter, Madison started Kindergarden. Both girls were very excited to get started, each headed out with all their new school supplies, back-packs and lunch boxes. Where did summer go!

Card I Cased!

Casing (or coping) cards from others is the sincerest form of flattery! Here is a card I cased from my dear friend Sue.

It is a card made from a die cut pattern from a craft store. I used SU Designer Paper and Chunky SU Glitter. I used the scallop punch and pink gingham SU ribbon. The top photo is the card insert (cupcake) pulled out of the cupcake holder.

Sock Monkey Baby Boy Card

Here is a card I made tonight for a new Grandson shower at work. It is SU Sock Monkey set, Bashful Blue and Whisper White Card Stock. It is a Designer Blue paper (can't remember the SU name). I used the two largest Nestibles for the card...fun!

Wedding Center Pieces

Here is what I made for my daughter's wedding center piece for each of the 25 tables since we couldn't use candles. I made 32 of them for the wedding, I am finally done with wedding stuff except curling ribbon will be placed all around the center piece and table. Each place at the table will have a fan and a wedding favor tin with mints in it.

Here is the Fan we made for my daughter's wedding of the Wedding Party, on the flip side I used a cuttlebug folder , the tins I used the SU Scallop punch, the 1 3/4" round punch, and the Thank you was from a retired SU set called Brides and Babies. I filled the tins with pastel dinner mints (all 200 tins) and made 200 fans! After I got these made I made 32 center pieces, we found the idea in a DIY Wedding book that we found at Joann Fabrics. We had to come up with something besides candles since where she is getting married can' burn candles.

I decided to make this card in mellow moss instead of the pink passion I did for my daughter's bridal shower card. I really like the colors better but she has hot pink for her colors of her wedding so we used pink. It is a lot preattier in real life.

Happy 4th of July

Went to my friends "Lake House". We had a great time. We had a BBQ, visited with friends and family, even met some new friends. We had a nice relaxing day.

Here is a picture from their kitchen window that I took a couple of years ago...what a lovely site! This picture was taken during the winter so you can image how lovely it was in July. (didn't have my camera with me, hope someone else took lots of pictures to share with me!)

Rick (Papa) took the kids canoeing, they had fun! They especially enjoyed the part of him flipping the canoe at the end of the ride. Yes after 2 hours of perfect canoeing he let everyone out of the canoe and reached for the dock and he flipped himself out of the canoe! After that he decided to swim across the lake and jump from a rope that hangs out over the lake. The 3 kids (5 years old and younger) loved watching him swing from that rope! Now he gets a new cell phone and eye glasses out of the deal!

Father's Day Card

Here is the card I made Rick for Father's Day. It is a wallet, I used my Fiskars Leather Texture plate in my Big Shot machine for the leather look. It was easy after that part. I used Chocolate Chip Cardstock, my SY Crafter's Toole Kit paper-piercing tool, pad, and hole template for the stitches, then I took my black SU fine tip marker to make the thread look. I found this tutorial on Danni's blog (link below)...She is a great instructor.

I just joined a Splitcoast blog titled: Sisterhood of the Blogging Stampers #19. Blogging is new for me but it is so much fun. I just added a music playlist tonight, a weather update, a counter, and a traffic feed last night...fun, fun, fun! White Dawn Rose Bush - Happy Memorial Day!

Here are some pictures of my White Dawn Rose Bush that I got in memory of my mom when she passed away in 2006. She was very fond of White flowers and said you should always have white flowers planted among your other colors. Her name was Dawn so this rose is in memory of her. I never had an interest in gardening but she loved it and turned my sister Karen into a gardener (after she told her that gardening was like decorating except you move or place plants around instead of furniture. My brother-in-law Brian now gets to relocate plants whenever my sister decides to rearrange the "furniture" (plants). Mom enjoyed Brian "thanking Mom for telling Karen that"! My "God Mother" Laurene, Mom's best friend told me that I could keep this plant alive and she would help me, which she has. I bet Mom is smiling down enjoying the fact that I actually enjoy some of this gardening - especially watching her rose grow each year.

It is hard to see the pop up but you can watch Dawn's video on how to make this card if you can't come to class on June 9th. I am also going to use this same design and have the pop up say "I hope your sail into retirement is as great as you are" by using the computer to type it out. I have a special person retiring on May 30th and want to make her a fun card...If it turns out the way I hope I will post it later.

Here is my version of the card Sue made me for Mother's day (see last blog). I didn't have the same stamp set, cuttlebug background, or ribbon but I still liked the concept of her card. We are heading to see Jackie, LEroy, and Maddie after visiting Carrie, Tim, and Abby for Mother's day. Maddie is having surgery tomorrow...pray all goes well and she isn't in pain and heals 100%!

I have been so busy that I didn't make any Mother's Day Cards until this morning, too late to mail to my special Mother's living out of town but I made one for each of my two special, wonderful mothers - Jackie and Carrie. Of course I cased the idea for the card from the one I received the above card from Sue for Mother's Day...I didn't have all the same stamps or punches but I liked my version of her card with what I had on hand...Thanks Sue for the cute card.

Stampers -

May 12th is our next Stamp Club...Sue is the hostess and will bring a project.

We will also be making one of these cute little boxes (shown above). I cased the idea from someone on Split Coast Stampers.

Please bring the following for this project:

Designer Paper (two sided works great) size 8" x 8" for the lid
Card Stock 8 1/2 x 11" (any color to coordinate with your designer paper lid) Used for bottom and border inside window.
Ribbon to go around your box ( between 18 to 20 inches long)

We will use the Tart and Tangy set found in theMini Collection 2008 Catalog along with a couple oldie but good sets for stamping an image on the transparency. I will project the ink, stamp sets, and transparency paper for this project.

If you have a stamp set that you want to try bring it along the size of the hole is 1 3/4" circle so anything that fits should work!

I will have some paper with me in case you forget but if you want to make a box with a certain theme please bring your own paper.
